Her obituary reads:
Julie Goodall Dickson Brown passed away on March 31, 2016, peacefully and surrounded by loving family, six years after being diagnosed with cancer. Julie was born January 11, 1963 in Arlington, Virginia, attended Arlington Public Schools, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mary Washington College and a Masters in Special Education from George Mason University. Her teaching career began at Swanson Middle School before moving to HB-Woodlawn, where her strength as a patient and dedicated teacher will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Colin Brown and two cherished sons, Kaelan and Aidan Brown. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Dickson Barton; stepfather, Richard Barton; father, Wallace Dickson; in-laws Max and Iris Brown; sister, Jennifer Dickson Duncan and husband, Robert Duncan; brother, John H. Dickson; stepsister, Jennifer Barton Lucas and husband, John Lucas; stepbrother, Michael Barton and wife, Courtney Barton, Colin’s brothers’ Andrew Brown, Brian Brown and his wife Angela. Nieces and nephews include: Amy and Natalie Duncan, Danielle Dickson, Kristen and Maddie Lucas, Josie Barton, Brandon, Chelsea, and Max Grace Brown. Julie is also survived by many close and loving friends, who brought her joy and peace in her final months.
A service celebrating Julie’s life will be held at the Arlington Unitarian Universalist Church on April 22, at 3 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to The Arlington Community Foundation, with Julie Dickson Brown Fund on Check Memo line. While she might not have graduated from HB-Woodlawn, Julie did attend Hoffman-Boston JHS. (She’s in my 1975-76 HB yearbook; two years behind me so that’s all I’ve got. She’s also in my Yorktown HS 1978-79 yearbook.)
